Former Jackass star Bam Margera has been ordered by a Pennsylvania court to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation after being arrested earlier this month for driving under the influence, which violated the terms of his probation. The 44-year-old was taken into custody at Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania last week and appeared in court on Monday, where Common Pleas Judge Patrick Carmody made the evaluation order, according to local reports.
Margera’s recent legal trouble stems from a DUI arrest that authorities said breached the terms of his probation from a previous case in June 2023. During Monday’s hearing, Margera’s lawyer, Michael T. van der Veen, expressed optimism about his client’s progress, stating that Bam had been doing well in the past year, passing all his drug and alcohol screenings. He added that the legal team expected Margera to be released as early as Tuesday or Wednesday following the evaluation.
Margera, who has faced multiple DUI arrests in the past, told the court that his recent slip-up was the result of going on a road trip without his wife, fitness model Dannii Marie, whom he married in May. His attorneys are working with court officials to arrange rehab as part of the next steps, which may be finalized in a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
The former MTV star’s struggles with addiction have been well-documented. In 2021, he was fired from Jackass Forever after reportedly breaching a wellness agreement related to his sobriety. Margera’s current probation stems from a violent altercation with his brother Jess Margera in April 2023, which led to charges of disorderly conduct and a six-month probation sentence.
Margera’s legal team emphasized that the goal of the court is to provide him with the treatment he needs rather than impose punishment. His lawyer William J. Brennan told reporters after the hearing, “Everybody in the system is interested in seeing Bam get what he needs, which is not punishment, but treatment.”
Margera’s struggle to overcome his personal demons has been ongoing, and this latest arrest highlights the challenges he continues to face on his road to recovery.
