The state of foreign diplomacy and international politics has significantly deteriorated over the last several years. Since the presidential election of 2020 in which the longtime and well-known career politician Joe Biden defeated the incumbent president Donald Trump, things have become increasingly volatile in both domestic and international affairs for America. Inflation has been a major issue affecting the financial and social well being of many American citizens. In late 2022, inflation levels reached heights not witnessed since the 1970s, and gas prices, food, and the costs of nearly everything have risen sharply. While mortgage rates have slightly decreased, economic hardship remains a reality as interest rates and prices are markedly higher in comparison to before the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the southern border, millions of illegal migrants have entered the nation since the beginning of Biden’s term. Currently, the secretary of the department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has come under intense scrutiny for his handling of the crisis at the border. Biden has failed to markedly or substantially address the issues at the border, and the problem has gradually worsened since 2020. Over five and a half million migrants are estimated to have entered the country illegally since this period, and thousands have been bussed to major cities from the border and released on the streets, creating serious housing, safety, and security problems. In New York City, a school was shuttered and children forced to learn remotely to accommodate migrants.
Internationally, two major armed conflicts continue to wage on two continents. In early 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, returning armed conflict to Europe for the first time since 1945. In late 2023, Israel was invaded by Hamas terrorists backed by Palestine. Since then, war has raged in Gaza. Houthi Terrorists in Yemen have joined in, firing upon American shipping and other western nations. Biden has promised significant retaliation, and the American military has attempted to engage these Yemeni Islamist terrorists.
