Trump Administration’s Tough Stance on Illegal Immigration

The Trump administration’s Border Czar Tom Homan has already proven his worth in the last few weeks, but the immigration hardliner just proved how serious he is about removing illegal aliens and protecting Americans by calling for an even faster deportation process. Homan is specifically calling for the removal of every criminal illegal alien.

Now that’s what we call a border czar!

Under the new administration, there has already been a significant drop in daily encounters at the US border. Homan reported a dramatic decrease in border crossings, stating, “In the last 24 hours the US Border Patrol has encountered a total of 229 aliens across the entire southwest border. That is down from a high of over 11,000 a day under Biden.”

The Trump administration has so far prioritized the removal of illegal immigrants with criminal records. Homeland Security data shows a substantial increase in arrests of migrants with criminal records and suspected gang members. In the first 18 days of Trump’s presidency, arrests of migrants with criminal histories increased by 98%, while arrests of suspected gang members surged by 105%.

“At last count we had almost 600,000 illegal aliens in the United States with a criminal conviction. I won’t be happy until we eradicate every one of those,” Homan said.

The focus on public safety threats has led to a shift in immigration enforcement strategies. The administration has enlisted personnel from various U.S. agencies to support these efforts, aiming to increase the number of daily arrests and deportations.

Challenges in Meeting Deportation Goals

Despite the administration’s aggressive stance, there are challenges in meeting the ambitious deportation goals. Since Trump’s inauguration on January 20, approximately 14,000 migrants have been arrested. Many of these individuals have been deported or sent to Guantanamo Bay, while others await court proceedings in the U.S.

Homan on Sunday said that he is “not happy” with the number of illegal aliens being arrested at this point, and that he would like to see the process be sped up substantially.

The administration’s initial goal was to achieve 1,200 to 1,500 arrests daily. However, the Department of Homeland Security reported fewer than 600 arrests per day in early February. Homan emphasized the need for increased targeting and productivity, stating, “We’ve got to do a lot more.”

The strict immigration policies have had a significant impact on immigration services across the country. In San Diego, a migrant shelter is closing due to the lack of new asylum seekers being released since Trump’s inauguration. The Jewish Family Service of San Diego has not received any migrants since the discontinuation of the CBP One phone app.

As a result, the shelter is shifting its focus to providing legal services for migrants due to changes in federal funding and policy.
