Canada Releases Image of Mysterious Aerial Object Shot Down Last Year

Canadian authorities have released the first image of an unidentified object shot down over Yukon Territory by a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor in February 2023. This marks the first time any visual evidence of the three unidentified objects downed that month in the U.S. and Canada has been made public. The grainy, low-resolution image shows a broadly doughnut-shaped object with a notch on one side, although the image quality makes it difficult to discern exact details. The object, designated UAP 23, was downed over Yukon on February 11, 2023, just two days after another unidentified object, UAP 20, was shot down off the northern coast of Alaska. A third object was shot down over Lake Huron on February 12.

These incidents followed the high-profile downing of a Chinese spy balloon by U.S. authorities off the coast of South Carolina on February 4. While the spy balloon was confirmed to be a surveillance device, the nature and origins of the three objects downed later in the month remain unclear. No remains of the objects have been recovered, and their ownership, as well as their purpose, is still unknown. Some reports suggest that UAP 23 might have been a “pico” balloon, often launched by amateur radio enthusiasts, though this has not been confirmed.

The newly released image came to light through an Access to Information request, Canada’s equivalent of the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Accompanying emails reveal that Canadian authorities initially moved to declassify and release the image in February 2023 but later decided against doing so, citing concerns that releasing the image could lead to public confusion. U.S. officials have since indicated that the objects posed no immediate threat, leading to further speculation that they may have been benign.

Despite the release of this image, significant questions remain unanswered regarding the February 2023 shootdowns, with both the U.S. and Canadian governments maintaining tight control over information related to these incidents. As interest in UAPs continues to grow, the lack of transparency surrounding these events has only fueled further speculation.
