Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has launched an all-out assault on Elon Musk, falsely claiming the billionaire wants to eliminate Social Security and Medicare. The Democrats are so unpopular that their only strategy now is to…lie.
At a glance:
• Chuck Schumer claimed Elon Musk wants to “eliminate” Social Security and Medicare
• Fact-checkers confirm Musk never called for eliminating these programs
• Musk actually discussed eliminating waste and fraud in entitlement spending
• Democrats appear to be using this false narrative to attack Republicans
• President Trump has repeatedly stated he opposes cuts to Social Security and Medicare
Schumer’s False Allegations
In a floor speech this week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made alarming claims about Elon Musk’s supposed desire to dismantle America’s social safety net. The Democrat leader took Musk’s comments completely out of context, suggesting the billionaire entrepreneur and Trump ally wants to abolish programs that millions of seniors depend on.
What Musk actually discussed was eliminating waste in entitlement spending, not the programs themselves. Breitbart’s fact-check conclusively determined that Schumer’s claim is false, noting that Musk was referring to cutting “$600-700 billion a year” in wasteful spending, not eliminating the entitlement programs.
Schumer dramatically declared on the Senate floor: “This week, Elon Musk said the quiet part out loud, and every single American should be alarmed.”
The Democrat leader then proceeded to misquote Musk, claiming he said, “Most of the federal spending is entitlements…so that’s the big one to eliminate,” while misleadingly suggesting this meant eliminating Social Security.
Musk’s Actual Position
Elon Musk’s complete statement reveals a completely different meaning than what Schumer implied.
The Tesla CEO and X owner stated:
“The waste report in entitlement spending, which is most of the federal spending, is entitlements. So that’s, like, the big one to eliminate. That’s the sort of half-trillion, maybe $600, $700 billion a year.”
The context makes it abundantly clear that Musk was talking about eliminating waste in the programs, not the programs themselves. Democrats appear to be deliberately misrepresenting these comments to frighten seniors ahead of the November election, where polls show President Trump leading in most battleground states.

Trump’s Clear Position
Not only did Elon not say that, but President Donald Trump has repeatedly made his position crystal clear on Social Security and Medicare. The 45th and 47th President has promised on numerous occasions that he would not cut these critical programs that seniors rely on, directly contradicting the Democrats’ fear-mongering narrative.
Trump stated during his first term and throughout his 2024 campaign that protecting Social Security and Medicare would be a priority of his administration. His commitment stands in stark contrast to the Biden-Harris administration, which has overseen record inflation that has significantly eroded the purchasing power of fixed-income seniors.
