Deported Migrant Arrested After Illegal Re-entry
In a recent operation, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers apprehended Victor Antonio Olan De La Cruz, a previously deported Mexican migrant, in Maverick County. The arrest, carried out with the assistance of a K-9 team, occurred as Olan De La Cruz was attempting to evade capture by trespassing on private property with a group of illegal immigrants.
In September 2024, the Biden administration had granted Olan De La Cruz supervised release before deporting him to Mexico two months later. His subsequent re-entry into Maverick County resulted in charges of criminal trespass.

Texas Intensifies Border Security Measures
The arrest of Olan De La Cruz is part of a broader initiative by Texas to ramp up border security efforts. Operation Lone Star, a comprehensive strategy to combat illegal immigration and smuggling activities, has yielded significant results. The operation has led to over 525,800 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 48,500 criminal arrests since its inception.
Texas has implemented various measures to enhance border security, including the construction of border walls, installation of razor wire barriers, and the use of drone technology. The state has also transported thousands of migrants to sanctuary cities since 2022, a move that has sparked controversy and debate about immigration policies.
Challenges in Immigration Enforcement
The repeated illegal entries of individuals like Olan De La Cruz underscore the complexities of immigration enforcement. Despite efforts to deter unlawful crossings, the motivations driving migrants to risk dangerous and illegal channels remain a significant concern.
“This noncitizen has a criminal history and was in the U.S. unlawfully,” ERO Harlingen Field Office Director Miguel Vergara said. “We will not allow criminals to overrun our communities. Noncitizens who commit crimes and are not legally present in the U.S. will be found and removed to their home country.”
