LAPD Seizes Enough Fentanyl to Kill Every Resident of Los Angeles in Major Drug Bust

Los Angeles police have made a shocking discovery: enough fentanyl to wipe out the entire population of the city in a single bust.

At a Glance:

  • LAPD seized over 50 pounds of fentanyl, enough to kill more than 11 million people, during a downtown narcotics investigation.
  • 28-year-old Jose Alberto Soto was arrested on charges of fentanyl sales and is currently being held without bail.
  • Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 50 times stronger than heroin and responsible for nearly 75,000 overdose deaths in the U.S. last year.

Los Angeles police have taken a major step in the fight against the opioid epidemic, seizing a massive 50 pounds of powdered fentanyl—enough to potentially kill every resident of Los Angeles three times over. The bust, which took place in the 7500 block of Central Avenue in South Los Angeles, also uncovered nearly nine pounds of black tar heroin and $14,500 in cash.

Authorities arrested 28-year-old Jose Alberto Soto in connection with the drug operation, and he now faces charges for the sale of fentanyl. With 2 milligrams of fentanyl considered a lethal dose, the amount recovered in this bust could have devastating consequences if it hit the streets.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid much stronger than heroin and morphine, is used medically for trauma patients but has become a deadly drug of choice on the black market. The CDC reports that synthetic opioids like fentanyl caused nearly 75,000 overdose deaths in the U.S. last year alone, with 150 people dying from fentanyl overdoses every day.

While Soto remains in custody, the investigation highlights the growing crisis of fentanyl abuse, as law enforcement continues to battle the influx of this deadly drug.

This crisis just keeps getting worse…and it’s funny how it’s the worst in Democrat-run cities…
