Comedian Martin Short claimed that Melania Trump does not intend to live in the White House if her husband is re-elected in November. Short acted as a guest host on a recent Jimmy Kimmel show and said the former President’s wife had expectations when she married him, “and that expectation was that the average life expectancy for an American male is 76.3 years old.”
Mr. Short said Mrs. Trump “hates Washington” and will not return there as First Lady. The comments follow media reports in which observers note their belief that Melania will be First Lady in name only and will not be by Donald Trump’s side as she was during his first term. Commentators suggest that Melania Trump will live between Florida and New York, where her son Barron is due to attend college in the fall, and attend the White House only for special events.
Kate Anderson, author of the First Ladies biography “First Women,” said Mrs. Trump dislikes Washington and is unlikely to spend much time there. Mary Jordan, who penned a biography of Melania Trump, added, “Melania does what Melania wants.”
The former First Lady has previously denied that she did not live at the White House during Trump’s Presidency, as rumors suggested she resided with her mother and son. Her staff said these claims were “100% false.”
An ex-aide to Mrs. Trump, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, stated that she doubts the couple will ever part ways but that Melania will be less available than previously, noting that her husband’s criminal conviction and alleged cheating have widened the rift between them.
In her book “American Woman,” New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers stated that the Trumps frequently disagreed in private and claimed that Melania Trump was an avid fan of CNN, while her husband preferred Fox News. She also wrote that Melania canceled a foreign trip with the former President when his alleged affair with Stormy Daniels became public.
