Massive Recall Hits Ram Truck Owners
Stellantis, the world’s fourth-largest automaker, has announced a sweeping recall of over 300,000 Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks. The recall stems from a defective hydraulic control unit that could compromise critical safety systems. This latest safety concern adds to the mounting challenges faced by the automotive giant, which has seen declining sales and recent leadership changes.
The recall affects specific 2017 and 2018 models of Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks. A total of 317,630 vehicles are impacted, including units in Canada, Mexico, and other regions. The faulty hydraulic control unit poses a risk to the anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, and traction control – all crucial safety features designed to prevent accidents and maintain vehicle control in challenging conditions.

Safety First: Stellantis’ Response
In response to the potential safety hazard, Stellantis is taking swift action. The company has committed to providing free repairs to all affected customers, demonstrating its commitment to consumer safety. Stellantis has stated that it will notify customers when service is available, ensuring that all impacted vehicles receive the necessary repairs.
While the company assures that regular braking systems remain unaffected by the defect, the potential failure of critical safety features is a serious concern. Owners of affected Ram trucks are urged to contact Stellantis at 1-800-853-1403 for more information and to schedule their free repair service promptly.
A Pattern of Recalls
This latest recall is part of a troubling pattern for Stellantis. In recent months, the company has faced multiple large-scale recalls. In September, nearly 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks were recalled globally for a software issue affecting the electronic stability control system.
Additionally, Stellantis recalled 207,000 Jeep and Dodge SUVs in the U.S. for a computer issue impacting safety features.
They’re not the only company who has been forced to issue recalls, too – between the automotive industry and even the airplane industry (let’s not forget Boeing’s woes…), there seems to be major quality control issues going on.
