A horrifying turn of events occurred on a couple’s wedding night when an unknown intruder shot the groom in the head.
Dulce and Manuel Gonzalez, who had been together for ten years and had already welcomed two children into their family, were set to marry on Friday night.
With fifty relatives congregating in the backyard of their St. Louis, Missouri, home to toast the newlyweds, the evening was a smashing success.
Just before 1 am on Saturday, two masked men broke into the celebration through the fence that links the bride’s driveway to her sister’s next door.
The assailants demanded ransom from the weddinggoers while yelling at them to remain still and brandishing their weapons menacingly.
One person allegedly stood behind Manuel Gonzalez, the groom, while another went through the guests’ pockets during the event.
The person guarding the groom suddenly opened fire on the 32-year-old groom, shooting him several times in the head, according to the police.
All of the family’s possessions and money were spared when the men fled the yard.
Yaribeth Pena, the bride’s sister, said the gunman didn’t take anything, but they’ve taken everything. Yaribeth is the bride’s sister.
Her new brother-in-law is being treated at a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As the authorities continue their investigation into the incident, Pena added that her sister is in the throes of sadness and despair.
The criminals, according to Pena, thought her brother-in-law was grabbing for a gun, but he was simply reaching for his wallet.
She begged the community for help in locating the thugs, who she thinks are teens.
The family did note, however, that as of Sunday afternoon, investigators still hadn’t interviewed every witness or collected all of the scene evidence.
Even though Manuel Gonzalez’s son-in-law is still in serious condition, his father-in-law reports that he has displayed some hand movements since being taken to the hospital, giving the family a ray of hope.
