Finally, Something Is Being Done About Our Fentanyl Crisis

While our southern border remains a sieve for illegal drugs and criminals, at least there are still some law enforcement officials doing the hard work to protect American communities. A federal grand jury in Gulfport, Mississippi has indicted nine men for operating a large-scale narcotics and firearms trafficking network in South Mississippi. This wasn’t some minor operation – these thugs were pushing pounds of meth, thousands of fentanyl pills, and trafficking weapons throughout the state while our federal government remains obsessed with pronouns and climate change.

The investigation was a joint effort by several agencies, including the ATF, Homeland Security Investigations, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Stone County Sheriff’s Department. These patriots conducted over 30 operations that led to the seizure of nearly 4 pounds of methamphetamine, over 4,000 fentanyl pills, 18 grams of powder fentanyl, and more than 20 firearms. While Democrats want to disarm law-abiding citizens, these guys were busy removing actual illegal weapons from the streets.

The Accused Face Serious Consequences (As They Should)

The alleged kingpin, Alvonta Demarcus McCray, faces six counts, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. He’s looking at a potential life sentence – which seems pretty appropriate given how many lives have been destroyed by the poison he’s allegedly been pushing. His buddy Melvin McCray faces five counts related to firearms trafficking and possession by a felon, with a potential 15-year sentence. Funny how criminals don’t seem to care about gun laws, yet Democrats think more restrictions will somehow solve the problem.

Cameron Fairley and Christopher Chase Brown are charged with firearms trafficking, with Fairley also facing drug distribution charges that could land him in prison for life. Nathaniel Jackson faces six counts of fentanyl distribution with a potential 20-year sentence, while Cleon Johnson was indicted for possession of a short-barreled shotgun. Rounding out this charming group, Roderick Victor Minter and Tracy Antoine McCall face conspiracy and methamphetamine distribution charges that could result in life sentences, and Jeremy Young faces two counts of fentanyl distribution.

Operation Take Back America: A Rare Example of Government Getting Something Right

The case is part of “Operation Take Back America,” which targets drug cartels and violent offenders through enhanced enforcement and collaboration between agencies. Now that’s a government program I can actually get behind! While the Biden administration has been busy letting millions of illegal immigrants pour across our southern border (along with record amounts of drugs), at least some law enforcement officials are still fighting the good fight to protect American communities from the scourge of drugs and violence.

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Orleans Division reported seizing over 20 million deadly doses of fentanyl in 2022 alone. That’s 20 million potential American deaths prevented – and yet our federal government seems more interested in persecuting parents at school board meetings and January 6th protesters than securing our border. If the administration put half as much effort into stopping the flow of fentanyl as they do into pushing their woke agenda, we might not be losing 100,000+ Americans to drug overdoses every year.

A Step in the Right Direction, But Much More Needed

While this operation deserves praise, it’s just a drop in the bucket compared to the flood of drugs pouring into our country. Until we secure our southern border and implement policies that actually target the source of these deadly substances, we’re just playing whack-a-mole with drug traffickers. The dedicated law enforcement officers who conducted this operation deserve our gratitude and respect. They’re doing the hard work while politicians give speeches and point fingers. It’s about time we got serious about protecting American lives from the deadly plague of fentanyl and methamphetamine destroying our communities.
