Top Actress DIES Young – Tributes Pour IN

Shannen Doherty, who shot to fame in the 1990s teen night-time soap Beverly Hills 90210 and went on to star in films such as Mallrats and the hit series Charmed, has died at age fifty-three after a protracted battle with breast cancer.

Doherty was one of the original core cast members of the Aaron Spelling-produced drama, which became a staple of high school life for the late Gen X and early Millennial crowd who came of age in the 1990s. Doherty played Brenda Walsh opposite Jason Priestley, who played Brenda’s brother Brandon. The two were new immigrants to Beverly Hills, and the drama initially focused on the Walsh family and the group of friends that gathered  around them. Doherty stayed on the decade-long show for its first four years, from 1990 to 1994 appearing in a total of 111 episodes. The show ultimately ran until the 2000 television season.

50 year-old actor Brian Austin Green played David Silver, one of Brenda’s friends, on the Fox network hit. He was a close lifelong friend of Doherty. He appeared on 292 episodes of the series across its entire run. The two would reunite on screen for the first time for the 2019 reboot mini-series entitled BH90210, where the returning original cast members played fictionalized versions of themselves.

A grief-stricken Green took to Instagram Stories to eulogize his lost friend. In his posting, he called her his sister, and talked about how she taught him how to understand love by the way she showed him her love and support through tough parts of his life.

Doherty is not the first member of the 90210 cast to die at a shockingly young age. Luke Perry, who played Brenda’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Dylan, died from complications of a stroke in 2019, when he was just 52 years old. After 90210 he played notable roles in films such as The Fifth Element and was a regular on Riverdale.
