Things within the realm of international politics have quickly deteriorated over the last several years. Indeed, since entering the oval office in January of 2021, the 46th American president Joe Biden has attempted to govern in the exact “opposite” fashion that his predecessor Donald Trump did. While Trump championed a “peace through strength” strategy in terms of foreign policy, Biden has appeared nothing but incompetent at the global level. Early in his term, Biden orchestrated a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. In the process, some 13 U.S. servicemembers died, and millions of dollars in military equipment was abandoned, alling into the hands of the Taliban. Biden also rescinded many sanctions that Trump had placed on Russia after spending years calling the Donald a Russian sympathizer. Biden allowed the Kremlin to drill for oil in the North Atlantic, and subsequently, Putin invaded Ukraine.
The topic of the war in Ukraine was one of discussion during the first presidential debate which occurred on June 27th. The former 45th President Donald Trump squared off against Joe Biden in an affair hosted by CNN. The debate was spirited, but Donald Trump clearly emerged as the stronger candidate following the discourse. A CBS poll showed that 72% of respondents said Biden was not fit to be president cognitively speaking following the debate. Biden often appeared incoherent and lost when answering questions and struggled.
Biden defended giving aid to Ukraine, claiming America had to continue to support the nation against Russia because if this did not continue that world war three would be imminent. Trump correctly pointed out that no foreign wars occurred under his presidency and that he believed if he had won the 2020 election there would be no wars in Ukraine or the middle east under his leadership. He said he would end the conflict in a single day; the Russian ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said this would not be possible.
