A Wisconsin pizza joint served up an unexpected surprise this week, as dozens of unsuspecting customers were hit with a heavy dose of THC, leaving them more than just full—they were stoned.
At a glance:
- Famous Yeti’s Pizza in Stoughton, Wisconsin, accidentally used THC-infused oil to make dough, affecting up to 60 pizzas over three days.
- Dozens of patrons experienced symptoms like dizziness, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, and nausea.
- The pizzeria has apologized and is cooperating with local health officials and police as investigations continue.
Dozens of people consumed marijuana unknowingly when a cook at Famous Yeti’s Pizza mistakenly grabbed Delta-9 THC-infused oil from a shared kitchen space and used it in a batch of dough. According to Public Health Madison and Dane County, this mistake led to dozens of patrons falling ill from Tuesday to Thursday, October 24, 2024.
The symptoms reported by customers included dizziness, nausea, and elevated blood pressure and heart rate. Stoughton EMS received numerous calls, with several patrons requiring emergency medical assistance after eating the contaminated pizzas. The THC-laced dough was enough to make 60 pies, and the unwitting customers found themselves unexpectedly intoxicated, experiencing the effects of eating a potent edible.
Cale Ryan, co-owner of Famous Yeti’s, expressed his regret over the incident, admitting to a “horrendous mistake” that compromised the trust the business had built over the past 12 years. In a letter to the local community posted on Facebook, Ryan apologized for the error and emphasized that the pizzeria is working closely with investigators to prevent future incidents. The shop remained closed on Friday for a thorough cleaning to ensure no further contamination.
Local health officials are still tallying the total number of affected individuals and continue to receive reports. Famous Yeti’s has destroyed the remaining contaminated dough and is cooperating fully with Public Health Madison and Dane County, as well as the Stoughton Police Department.
Maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation if weed hadn’t been normalized so much.
